Polycom launches Video Media Center(tm) 1000 (VMC 1000)

Tuesday 3 July 2007

Polycom, Inc. has announced the Video Media Center(tm) 1000 (VMC 1000) an appliance-based solution that allows organizations to centrally manage, leverage and protect video content. The new Polycom VMC 1000 is being demonstrated this week at the Infocomm Conference and Expo (Polycom Booth #2000) taking place June 19-21 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.

The Polycom Video Media Center is scheduled for availability in North America early in the third quarter 2007 through Polycom certified channel partners with North America pricing starting at MSRP US$95,000. Availability in EMEA is scheduled for Q4 2007 and APAC in Q1 2008. Regional pricing may vary.

Polycom's unified approach allows customers to use all Polycom video endpoints (as well as other standards-based H.323 endpoints) to cost- effectively create video content, including video shot in high definition, which can be streamed live or made available on demand.

Used in conjunction with Polycom RSS 2000 recording and streaming server, customers can choose to record point-to-point and multipoint video conferences (including content shared within a call) and automatically store them centrally as well as make them available on demand. Additionally, by using the VMC 1000 in combination with Polycom's video conferencing solutions a video conference can be extended to include hundreds or thousands of participants.

Polycom VMC 1000 gives IT administrators a comprehensive control center and dashboard to manage the complete video content lifecycle: from creation, capture and encoding, to portal publishing and webcasting, to storage and archiving. Stored content can be easily located by category, keyword, availability and more through embedded search features.

Content can be streamed live or on demand to up to 1000 concurrent unicast users and unlimited users via multicast for global scalability. Standard reporting capabilities include the ability to track viewership, content popularity and user statistics for measuring program success, compliance and security.

Joe Sigrist, senior vice president and general manager of Video Solutions at Polycom, said: "Up to this point video streaming and webcasting have existed in a separate, parallel universe from real-time, interactive video conferencing within an enterprise. As the world market leader in conferencing and collaboration solutions, Polycom is able to bridge these universes. By integrating video conferencing with video content management, we provide a unified solution that helps customers leverage existing video conferencing investments to create enterprise-wide video communications networks."

The VMC 1000 connects dispersed workforces and improves collaboration by seamlessly integrating video content into enterprise communications and conferencing.

Applications for video communications and content are broad and include: corporate communication (investor relations, internal announcements, all-hands meetings, mergers and acquisitions, etc.); education and training (retention of intellectual property, distance learning, recorded lectures, self-study programs, certification, etc.); human resources (new hire training, benefits updates, compliance testing, etc.); and sales and marketing applications (product updates and demonstrations, field sales training, promotions, partner education/updates, marketing campaigns to targeted audiences, etc.). Video content can also help reduce customer support costs by providing effective and easy-to-follow product details, installation instructions, troubleshooting guides and user manuals.
