Polycom Honored by Prestigious 2008 InformationWeek 500
Polycom, Inc. has announced that it has been listed on the 2008 InformationWeek 500. Polycom was recognized for its implementation of a world-class unified communications network that supports widespread high definition audio and voice conferencing applications on a continuous basis. The 2008 InformationWeek 500 companies were revealed Sept. 15, 2008 at a gala awards ceremony held during the InformationWeek 500 Conference at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach.
"The high performance network has become a competitive advantage for the company," said Glenn Noga, Polycom chief information officer. "We have equipped our employees with a complete set of communications tools that support all the different styles found in a global company, and there's no question that the investments we made in unified communications and collaboration technologies have had a significant impact on employee productivity worldwide."
The goal of the network transformation project was to deploy a global IP network featuring "best-in-class" infrastructure for collaborative communication. Polycom had gone through significant growth acquiring companies from around the world, and the resulting network environment consisted of a mixture of hardware, WAN technologies, and LAN technologies. Once the new network was in place, Polycom realized immediate results including improved employee productivity through increased collaboration as well as more effective sales demonstrations leading to increased sales. In addition, the IT team was able to establish its own set of best practices for deploying video collaboration companywide.
"For 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston. "Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue, and establish a competitive advantage. We applaud this year's winners, and the CIOs and other executives whose ingenuity and risk taking are at the center of business technology innovation."
InformationWeek has identified and honored the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual listing, now in its 20th year, and has tracked the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America's best-known companies. The list is unique among corporate rankings because it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
